WIGU Back to School Extravaganza
The Denver Back-to-School Extravaganza is where When I Glow Up began. What started as a small, grassroots effort to support youth with a few resources and a lot of heart quickly grew into a community-powered event that laid the foundation for our entire organization. Today, this annual event provides underserved students and their families with access to essential resources and culturally affirming services, including backpacks and school supplies, groceries, haircuts and hairstyles, manicures, mental health resources, and more. Designed as a whole-family experience, our goal is to reduce the financial and emotional stress that often comes with the start of the school year, ensuring every child can return to school feeling confident, prepared, and supported.
Free Manicures!
Kids can enjoy a fun and simple manicure from our volunteer nail artists. It’s a great way to add a little sparkle and self-care before school starts! Services are first come, first served—be sure to sign up early to save your spot.
Free Haircuts & Styles!
Students can receive a fresh back-to-school hairstyle from professional stylists and barbers. We offer free haircuts and braid styles to help kids feel confident and ready for the new year. Spots are limited and styles are simple, so register below to secure your place!
Free Plants!
Each child will get to paint their own mini plant pot and take home a small live plant. It's a creative and calming activity that encourages growth—both in and out of the classroom!
Free Backpacks, Clothes & More!
Students will receive free backpacks filled with school supplies, plus the chance to pick out a back-to-school outfit from our clothing boutique. Additional community resources will be available for both students and parents to explore throughout the event.
