The Mission

When I Glow Up exists to empower families during the back-to-school season by offering holistic, culturally affirming support that uplifts both students and their households. Rooted in lived experience and a background in therapy, beauty, art, and care, our mission is to reduce stress for families in need and help students begin the school year with confidence, dignity, and joy. We believe that when the whole family is supported—through beauty care, community resources, relaxation, and essential supplies—students are better equipped to thrive both emotionally and academically.

The Vision

We envision a future where all students—regardless of their zip code or income—return to school feeling seen, supported, and ready to thrive. At When I Glow Up, our goal is not just to hand out supplies, but to restore dignity, ease burdens, and strengthen the family unit through community-rooted care. We aim to grow into a sustainable, annual tradition that transforms back-to-school preparation into an uplifting experience for the entire household.

The Beginning

When I Glow Up was founded by Jazmond, a Licensed Psychotherapist and passionate hairstylist, inspired by her work with teens in residential care. There, she saw firsthand how a lack of resources affected students' confidence and success during the school year. After shifting to private practice, she remained committed to supporting youth—starting with a simple idea to offer free hairstyles before the 2023 school year began.

The vision quickly grew into a larger community effort. Diana, the first to hear Jazmond’s idea, immediately joined in, helping expand the event beyond beauty services into a full Back-to-School Extravaganza. Misha came on board next, using her creative skills to shape the brand and capture its essence through powerful visuals. Angel, deeply connected to local youth, stepped up to lead volunteer coordination with heart and care. Together, this team of women built When I Glow Up into a movement rooted in love, creativity, and a commitment to helping families thrive.

The Purpose

Many school supply drives focus solely on the student. When I Glow Up takes a different approach—recognizing that students thrive when their families thrive. That’s why we include beauty services, groceries, massages for parents, mental health resources, and more. Our events are designed to meet families where they are, with culturally affirming care that goes beyond the classroom.

When we reduce the pressure on parents and caregivers, we give students the space and support they need to walk into the school year with pride and power.
